In 1862,
Ezekiel C. Smith of Quaker Hill, CT, offered to provide land next to his family
burial plot for the purpose of establishing a cemetery if a properly organized
“association” could be established
to manage the cemetery. Immediately, the Union Cemetery Association of
Waterford in Quaker Hill, CT was formed, and since its very beginning in 1862, has always been a voluntary organization of
local resident members committed to providing a valuable service to the
community in a time of need.
For more
than a century and a half, the Union Cemetery Association of Waterford also known as the Union Cemetery in Quaker Hill CT has been beautifully maintained. In order for this level of care to continue,
it is essential that the Union Cemetery receive continued community support to
provide for the perpetual care and maintenance of plots, graves and grounds. There are still several beautiful cemetery burial plots for sale in the original section of the Union Cemetery in Quaker Hill CT.
Since the
purchase of 2-1/2 acres in 1999 adjacent to the Union Cemetery in Quaker Hill CT, the Association
has worked to develop the new property.
To date, the land has been cleared, lawn has been planted, a new access
entrance from Lathrop Rd. and gravel roadways have been added, new plots have
been surveyed and laid out and some landscaping has been done. A beautiful new stone wall has been built
along Lathrop Road. A Cremation Garden
is in the planning stages along with additional burial plots for sale in Quaker Hill CT.
Please
consider giving a donation to help the voluntary organization maintain the beautiful grounds and monuments at the Union Cemetery in Quaker Hill CT.
